With apologies,I'll be happy if a few more along with me can forget about some facts about the history of India.Today we are the prey to this brutal terrorism is only b'coz of Nehru and his family. Please guys if any one is against my opinion, revise your history....

Dr. Santa : I am very much against your opinion. The easiest thing in life is to put the blame on some one else. It is you (me) and your (my) family to be blamed more than the Nehru family. I do remember apart from history, we also had a subject called civics in school....and we pride ourselves to be the world's largest democracy !!
My history is not strong, but from a practical socio-economic sence, I see that India had made the most progress during the period of the Father-Daughter-Son period, the benefits of which were felt over the last 4 to 5 years, but now that we did not have any of the Nehru family governing over the boom days, policy mistakes is now starting to show its ugly face.
I am now living in a Monarchy and can understand the benefits of the system, Monarchs truly believe that the country belongs to them.....not ministers !!

Thumbs up to our view, Kausty. I totally agree with you. It is only because of Pd. Nehru's broad vision and scientific temper that we are so far ahead than most nations in the realm of science and technology.

Santa, I feel you view most things with a pretty jaundiced eye. But then you are entitled to your own opinion and I to mine.

The idea behind this post was share with the rest of us some rare videos of our historic past.

I for one was very excited as I had never seen/heard them before....only read about them.

Now, now ;-)

Go easy on the Dr. Sahiba.

Hind sight is always 20/20 ( fps ;-( ). It is believed (and to some extent I agree) that some of Jawaharji's decisions did not pan out well. I do hold the man in very high esteem, though.

At the juncture we were, and looking at history, overall we did benefit from having such a person at the helm.

You see, Communism, in early 20th. century, was embraced by many intellectuals. It is only thru experimentation that we (humanity) learnt that in general, the ideals (of Communism) is hard to put in practice.

On a more lighter note Omkar, communism seems to be back again in (still) early 21st century !! Capitalism (which includes the philosophy of survival of the fittest in the commercial world) being thrown out of the window and governments pushing all those trillions to save ailing retail and investment banks.

Good point!

However, what we r seeing today is Socialism - like the U.S Govt. saving the auto industry so that not only the auto, but the whole supply chain industries and their workers do not add to the already growing unemployed.

Runaway capitalism is never a good idea - e.g. executive pay.

Oh guys, plz reason it to me,why we have an international border in Punjab and a LOC in Kashmir. And what do you hav to say about LTTE and Liberation of East Pakistan. If u know the intricacies,ur opinion will change. For that matter if the father/daughter were alive to witness what's happening with their own community in Kashmir they would have regreted.

The only diffence is that Father- mother-son carried the advises of our bureacrats whereas the others are arrogant and egoistic.Politicians are only to make best for themselves and their kith and kin during their term (DEMOCRACY u see)

Its a shame that this country still lacks something like a social security,I wonder whether any of our policy makers understand what this means.

Kausty, u know how the NHS,the British railways....work.Everything has been desinged the same way since the British times, but its just a failed system. Can our country ever reach close to any of the developed nations even at its peak of Economnic development,I doubt.

The Brain Drain in our country z only b'coz of your politicians(coz I never cast my vote and it does not make a difference to me).I'm Indian and there are lot more to discuss.....Kausty u come to India and we can have a discussion abt it over a drink.

Nothing against u Kausty or anyone, but I love my country- India, more so after living aboard(especially London).I still fail to understand how my folks, specially the doctors can think of serving other countrymen when there is some much dearth and need to serve our own people. Is it just to earn dollars,euros,pounds...
Guys don't let me....

Discussions like this takes more than a drink....but I am always happy to take up an invitation for drinks !!
Three points for now :
1. You seem to have concentrated on the NHS more than the politics in UK during your stay here, else how can you not give any credit to the British for the LOC. Kashmir, etc problems !!
2. You think the graduate civil servants are better decision makers than Oxford/Cambridge educated politicians....my guess is that the civil servants are good at maintaining files and feeding data to the politicians.
3. You are trying to tell me Indian doctors in india work free and the Indian doctors abroad are the only paid ones ? My thought on doctors in India, if there were none, less people would die !!

Kausty, you took the words out of my pen... I'd also love to hear the answer to your Q3 above!!! rofl!!
