Hey Ashu,
HNY!!
Its really a chota world. Fancy meeting Tata in Bhopal. I thought he was in Vizag. A great guy and a very good pal of mine. Was my batchmate in the railways, but quit sometime back to join an NGO.
Btw, Jason was in Bhopal too but just after Diwali; as an Election Observer for the Assembly polls.
Hope you get better soon.
Do gargling, steaming, hot soup....the works n you'll be fighting fit in no time.

Tas, do send me your contact info, in case I find myself in Calgary. Also, any plans to be in the NY/NJ area any time soon?

Hi Everyone

Tas, hum gayab nahi hua. Majboor hain aur lachaar hain .. my plant is shut due to recession till Jan 31st hence limited access to mails.
Sold of my System at home to go for a Notebook , for more portability but again squeezed budget. Only succour is Cybercafe.

Well saving for the rainy day like an ANT.

Aashu: have u met Irfaan Khan at Jaipur. This guy is really making waves at Bollywood. Itching to see ' Billu Barber '. What was the fort where 007 's ( Roger Moore ) film was shot ??

By the way where have Faiyaz, Nargis and Ali Khandaan have vanished. Faiyaz's double entendre is missing !

That's sad Naresh. I'm really sorry to hear that. Hope things work out for you soon once the plant reopens.Have faith in God. There is always a light at the end of the tunnel and you will see it soon.
I'm going through a kind of a rough patch myself, but I try not to let anything faze me.
Take care & God Bless.

Saw Slumdog. Didn't like it one bit. I's been made to pander to the Gora's sense of superiority over us lesser mortals and also to show that realising "The great American Dream" is possible.*&!#!* Doesn't happen that way.

haven't seen slumdog but would tend to agree with you on the treatment of the third world. saw ghazni and i thought that aamir was awesome. asin was even better and their love story has been refreshingly told. a must see.

Loved "Slumdog". Its an entertaining movie, as opposed to films like "Rab Ne Bana ..." which bored me to tears.

The only reason I hesitate to see Ghajini (?) is its a plagiarized version of Memento. Geez, Bollywood plagiarizes left & right. Its embarrassing.

Tas, Hi
its so nice to find your postings -- though you reside in a freezing zone your warmth spills o'vr the entire blog touching each one of us with your concern and involvement in our mundane process of existence. Its so heartening when you chip in with your remedies,--you empathise and relate--thanks for being there---feel so reassured!!!

No doubt the movie Slumdog Millionaire was very well made, the actors performed brilliantly, especially the kids...but the concept was ridiculous and the portrayal of India nauseous.
Can India only be visualised as a place with slums, child prostitution, child beggary, police brutality, people wallowing in shit, communal riots, underworld dealings, gang warfare? I know we can't wish it away, but what about the new India – a country that is experiencing a rate of growth paralleled by few other nations in the world...a fact which has disconcerted many a nation?
It went all out to pander to the misplaced sense of superiority of the 'goras'....to allay their fears that India is not all that 'shining' as is it made out to be. No wonder it caught everyone's fancy in the Western world.I was not comfortable with the message which I thought it was surreptitiously trying to convey.
SRK doing its presentation at the GG Awards, for me personally was a big let down. Rahman, however deserved every bit of the Award that he got.

Thanks a ton, Sarita...you made my day!
Nothing special about me...I'm just being me ;)!!
My prayers are with all of you n I'm sure yours are with me too.
I really need it. It's sometimes so lonely here, especially during the cold, brutal winters (it seeps to your bones n not having a car doesn't help either)
Things don't always work out as we want them to....one has to take life as it offers itself; sometimes sweet, sometimes sad.
I try to keep my spirit high, no matter what and J is a big help all the way through Skype!
On a lighter note... guess what? If all goes well, I'm planning to go on a movie marathon tomorrow. Will be seeing 'The Reader' and 'Revolutionary Road' back to back...both Kate Winslet movies. If you get a chance to see 'Seven Pounds', don't miss it. Will Smith has done a fantastic job as always.
Bye n tc.

Aashu --your appearnce however briefly --and with all the Harold Pinter "silences" accentuated by your punctaution marks brings out wonderful responses from all of us..

Tas --I find that you are a real movie buff --which is also my fav habit-recently I saw 'Motorcycle Diaries" based on the travels of Che Guevara across Latin America --a real lyrical journey --a visual and emotional treat...

Tasneem said...

@ Stanley:
I'm seeing so many movies here for want of anything better to do. In India, I hardly get the time for these luxuries.
The last two movies that I saw were The Road and Valkyrie. Both great ones set in Germany during WWII.
Revolutionary Road didn't have a very good review, so I gave it a miss for the time being..
