Independence Day Musings

Today is Independence Day and I felt pensive watching the mandatory unfurling of the Tricolour flag and the recital of patriotic songs.
One wonders about countries that do not have an independence day, simply because they were not ruled by foreigners -- like Switzerland or Iceland or Canada or Bhutan, I dont know --so, if they do they not sing martial songs of how they repulsed the enemy, what do they sing about?
And if one were to travel millions of years ago into the past, when all countires and even continents did not exist --instead, there was one big unified land mass called Pangea --what did the Pangeans celebrate as Independence Day --independence from other planets ??
I think we are essentially tribal and community -minded in our mindsets --we need collective rituals and traditions to enjoy a sense of belonging -- for to be alone, and to have to make choices on survival all alone, is sheer terror ......
Having said all that, JAI HO, fellow Indians !!

Nice 'independent' musings! You are right. Even I feel sad for those Canadanians, Swiss...etc. Poor things, at least we have someone to to 'blame' for our independent state...;-}
Only I keep wondering when we will get our real independence- where the mind will be without fear and all that jazz.....*sigh*
Anywayz...Jai Ho Saar!
