The "Bird watchers" of Mumbai

In the suburbs of Mumbai the day started for the blogmaster clicking birds in motion and in "loose motion"(to use Faiyazism). By evening he got so bored that he decided to round up the oldies of SVC to do some real bird watching around Nariman Point.

That's how Sir Stanely, Ashok Soni, Vims and yours truly got together for some gup-shup.

Sir Stanely has started living up to his knighthood status. He has really taken the 'Sir' bit very seriously. He finds road food, like chanaa choor garam, chai garam, peanuts etc. as dicey. He avoided Tandoori Chicken at Leopold, labeling it as carciogenic. Even beer was a no no, too much of tri-glycoride you see. Luckily Vims put his foot down on the road side tuck and I put my foot down on the beer. Sir Stanely went quiet after some time because we agreed politely to the dicey and the carciogenic lectures but went about doing our own thing!!

Ashok Soni, the vegetarian teetotler that he is, must have felt as comfortable as Malika Sherawat in the company of Mother Teresa. He updated us about all that is happening in Berhampur. He really has an elephantine memory when it comes to recalling people and incidents that are almost thirty years old. In between all the gossip he also reminded us about his daughter's wedding that is coming up in a couple of months time. My my my........ how time flies!!

Ashok and Vims were happy to meet their Hindi miss. We were all thrilled that we could talk to Miss Shamim, Sushmita (not Sen), Sarita and Louis. In between it so transpired that Abha's hubby- Binoy Mishra and yours truly were together in JNU. So courtsey Vims I got his number and spoke to each other.

All in all we oldies had great fun talking about the good old days, remembering all of you and wishing that the golden era of our SVC days had never ended. No wonder Nov. 14 is designated children's day. We sure miss our childhood.

You are right Sir Stan..... ajab shehar ki gazab kahani!!

Abha, you are married to Binoy Misra of IAS, 1984 batch who was in Customs before that?
Hey, he is mine & Jason's batchmate! What a small world this is! Convey our hi to Binoy. Heard he is in the world Bank now, right?

All you guys... looks like you had loads of fun at Marine Drive. Have you all tucked into Bade Mian's grub behind the Taj? A must do.

On a similar tone, when the Don visits Bombay, the whole city shakes with SVCians.

Nice pics, Vims and Arun.I am hearing Ashok Soni's name after many, many years!

Nice to see Ashok Soni. I had spoken to him a few months back after a long gap thanks to Susant Choudhury.
Sir Stan looks evergreen! Arun and Vimal look like pucca Mumbaikars:)
Oldies? More like school kids who bunked classes for a trip to the beach!

Lovely picture. Looking at you guys, there is still a century left for SVC to become VSC !!
And yes, some pitchers of beer at Cafe Mondegar and then food at Bade Miyan round the corner would round up a perfect day out for kids bunking class !!

Considering Stanley has bought us many litres of beer at the SAIL guesthouse in Calcutta (Sorry, Kolkatta), it surprises me !!
