An Open Letter To Thelma David!

My dear Thelma,

I know, I know….you wanted this to be a private missive but I’m so hurt and so disappointed and so terribly insulted with your comment that I wanted to make it a public affair!!

How could you? How could you challenge my elephant like memory in an open forum like this? How could you even think that I’d forget you? After all we’ve been through as friends *sigh*! After all those songs we’ve hummed together like ‘the banks of the Ohio’….and 'Fernando' and ‘yeh dosti hum nahin todenge’…(okay, you can ignore the last number- that’s just to show what a drama queen I am…hehehe).

How could you? How could you even think I’d not remember you? And WHY? Just because I’ve written two books and become world famous in my tiny circle of family and friends ;-} Have you any idea who inspired me to write them? Of course it was NOT you silly…Hahhaha!! But let me tell you something. A long long time ago, definitely not on a graduation day, you handed me an essay or a poem or an article I donno what, but this is what you had to say….. ‘Just for one moment, imagine the world without any colour’. WOW! Those haunting lines had such an effect on me I remember thinking-‘Oh dear God, I wish I could write like that’. Perhaps God was in one of his good moods for He granted me that wish. And I started to pen- in black and white. And then with His grace, I also began to be read :-}

How could you Thelma? How could you even think I was that shallow a friend? True friends, even if they don’t keep in touch, don’t usually put behind them things like books that were presented on Happy Birthdays! And not any book but one by Gorky called ‘Mother’! How else do you think I was inspired to write my latest blog :-} Oh dear, dear, Thelma! On the book you write things like ‘You’ve got a friend…ME’ and then go on to say ‘I thought you’d forgotten…ME'……:-{

Anyway, just so you know I’m not bluffing I have posted above ‘All that was BEST’ you had once wished for someone. Sorry, but I couldn’t help highlighting that cute picture of yours which you had pasted on the book :-} I know it was ‘for my eyes only’ and not appropriate to be put up on a postcard where all the Svcians can ogle at but I’m so miffed at your comment I thought this was the best way to take my revenge!!

And now with your picture on the net and your email id revealed don’t blame me if you start receiving junk mails or getting stalked. I know that you’ve got two grown up sons and all that jazz……so in future my dear, please refrain from giving such privileged information (and pictures)to friends like me. As they say….’when your friends turn into foes, round the world your secret goes’ So there!!

P.S. And just by writing my name with five ‘r’s, four ‘g’s, four ‘i’s and five ‘s’s and greeting me with six capital ‘H’s and ten screaming ‘i’s and nine howling exclamation marks, don’t think you can win me over!!!! And Oh! Before I end...just curious….what was your hubby’s reaction to all those numbered tattoos in your entire body ;-}
