International Women’s Day
A time to honour our tribe
to delight in our newfound freedom
to partake of the joys of womanhood
A time to rejoice
to party
to make merry
A time to gloat!
Whoever heard of an International Men’s Day:-)
But
Today is also her day
she who owns
no courage, no calendars, no identity
she who is disowned the rights
to learning, to thoughts, to liberty
she who is often wronged
by the brutal blows of society
she who is squashed and slain
deliberately, silently
she who is borne in shadows
shamefully, accidentally.
How can I then
distill a lifetime of murk and bottle it
to just one date?
How can I revel or raise a toast
to a sparkling but bitter truth-
we
both I and she
live in opposite worlds.
So, if today is my day
it is also her night.
Hey you girls out there (and the guys too if you care to read between the lines) here’s some food for thought. And yes, Sheila and Alpana, this may not be the answer to the question you had both posed earlier but in a small way it is my dedication to the millions of unborn girl fetuses all across the world. Not forgetting the million other unluckier ones, those born but whose fate is no less fortunate. Some of their stories (and I don’t speak only of India or Asia but other Continents as well) are so horrendous it makes real life experiences sound like unreal ones. Certainly gives us LUCKY women enough reason to count our blessings. Mirth has its worth but sometimes solemn matters deserve a thought too. Sorry for sounding so vinegary.

International Women's Day !
International We"Mens" Day, I Say !
Who celebrates any Way?
Without bothering much Let's together get geared
for the forthcoming occasion celebrated widely
Internationally.
The 'Rang' Day !
Clue: The 'Bhang' Day !
Sometime I wonder if March 8th is not a big condescending Day sanctioned by MCPs of the world --I mean its ridiculous to slice an integral part of the living planet and say, know what, today is your day so go brood and ruminate over your condition, and tomorrow, babe, back to serving and doing what we have socially conditioned you to do.....
To me, Women represent Mother Earth -- and therein lies the great human paradox --men plunder and subjugate Earth, and yet they cling on to it for dear life, ocz, know what, as of now, there's no Life elsewhere....
