The Pebble Thrower

Here is a story about a pebble thrower, who came to reside in a village called A (Apostcardfromvimal). The residents until then had lived a quiet predicatble life, grumbling about some reunion, a la Waiting for Godot, and passing comments on classmates sepia photographs....
And then came the pebble-thrower, no one knew what his real name was, the chronicler of A mentioned that his real name was Arun Bhatt.
Well, be that as it may, the pebble thrower began what he was meant to do: throwing pebbles in the deep depths of the pond of SVC-ians collective memories and all watched with awe as the ripples thus created caused a huge stirring in the pond --and suddenly a wave of Nostalgia arose and engulfed all the residents of A, who suddenly were shaken out of their complacency, and all rushed to the pond, muttering to themselves: yeh kya ho raha hai, aakhir yeh pebblethrower aay kahan se, aur ab tak tha kahaan, and lIfe at Apostcardfromvmal was not the same again ...................................

Stan, pebble thrower aab boulders le ke aaraha hai!! The first post was too good. One congratulated him and then the second post followed which turned out to be better than the previous one! Then another one and another one... each one better than the cumulative total of the past!! Arun literally pulled us out of our slumber - participate otherwise I'll drag you in kind of a threat and there you find each one of us blogging so religiously..
Tons of credit to Arun... and ofcourse in equal measure for each one us who chipped in time and again... Fai and Venu at one time kept the blog going when none of us even bothered to give it a second look. Every one out here has contributed in keeping this afloat. This Blog is like a huge bus - Hop in hop out hop in as long as you are happy and others are happy. The whole idea is to bring about the feel good factor, re-connect with friends, share happiness, distribute your sorrows and generally have fun in this otherwise rush-rush kind of life...
Thanx a ton Arun, and thanx everyone... the Blog is a wonderful place to hang around coz of folks like you.

Stan.....

The pebble thrower sure has managed to bring most of us out of our hibernation. And to ensure that we stay awake, I guess each of us have to chip in our share of stone throwing from time to time. Just to keep the ripples active. But like Faiyaz says, more than a ripple or a wave or even a splash, I guess this has snowballed into a tsunami of memories :-}

Hey Stan, You said it!!! where had you gone all this long???We needed the Midas or rather the Arun touch !!!When are you planning a trip --back to the nitty gritty details--you'll agree that flighty stuff isnt forever--we must continue to wait, WAIT for the idyllic Get-Together we promised ourselves ,even at the risk of being monikered a Godot

Get Together we promised ourselves!

They say that angels, fairies and such creatures disappear on human interface -- they hate to be in the limelight --is that the reason that the pebble thrower is silent ...........

dear captain o captain- Stanely!

I am in Jharkhand touring around the proposed steel plant site in the naxalite infested villages. Arcelor Mittal and Bhushan steel have already created problems for themselves during the land acquisition process. We are trying to aavoid the high profile style and are working more at the grass roots level. This is the ONLY reason I was off the blog.My accessibility to internet seriously becomes affected during such trips to Jharkhand.

The pebble thrower phase is not only wonderful but very apt. Wnever I and Vimal talk or meet up this is our major poimnt of duscussion. How do we get people out of their cacoons ? How can people live in solitude? (To understand solitude I am even going through Garbriel Gracia.. and i must say it makes for very heavy reading- 25 pages in last four days).

But what happens if pebbles are thrown on sand?

What happens when pebbles are thrown at window panes?

What happens when pebbles are thrown in the air?

Pebbles have a relevance only when thrown in still deep water.

That's when the ripples are created gently, softlty caressing your heart and soul.

Throwing a pebble is easy. Throuwing it in a lake of friends wedded together in a bond of shared past and childhood is what gives the right results.

I am glad, overwhlemed and at times humbled and embarassed by the attention I get. I hate my photographs, not because I look old and fat but because I am shy and awkward. But I am enjoying every minute the ripples that have been created in the serene lake of our memories.
Let's keep rippling...

At last the peripatetic Pebble Thrower spoke (after throwing pebbles in the agitated waters of Jharkand)--and he attributes the stirring of collective memories to deep and still waters of shared childhood.

You know, as Time marches on, our hundred years of solitude stretches exponentially, and we then enter into what can only be described as the Tanhai phase of our lives.....

Agree with you Tas. Feels great to note that our blog is being picked up here and there around the globe. Some are just blank hits where as some are on a regular basis!
