I'm sure Nargis and Fiaz, who know me little will be surprised to read this.....
" The White House - Down the Memory Lane"
I still remember as a kid when sick being rushed to the OP clinic on the lt.side of the entrance. My next visit was with Chumki while at school, spent abt precisely 30min in the spacious drawing room to the rt.side. The next entry to the " White House" was in 1992, the spacious drawing room being converted to a Clinic wherein I am supposed to see patients. Since then I was a regularly visiting, assisted a few surgeries with Dr.Dilip. In 1994 I had left for Chennai for higher studies, specialised in Internal Medicine at Southern Railway HQ Hospitals Perambur - one of the best institutes offering speciality training in the country. Naresh ur daughter should do her training at Perambur. While I was at Perambur it was always in my mind to go back and do something concrete at Berhampur. Whenever I used to go home on holidays I used to go to Dr.Dilips clinic, had discussions whether we could expand this place and have a centre for emergency, trauma and critical care services. Dilip bhai used to tell that Dr.Ali's son in gulf is very sentimental about the property, like any one us. Can u all b'leive that I once had a dream that the entire "White house" being converted into a big hospital with a state of art intensive care units....
May be I was destined to be an Oncologist, which I have no regrets at all.
I have not been to Berhampur since 2004. My house is still under lock and key since 4yrs, neither do I have contacts with Dilip bhai/Asish bhai to know about the " White House". Nargis/Faiz how is it now, do u hav any pictures? Nargis if u want to exactly figure me, I'm cousin of Late Dr.Usha ( ur classmate in Intermediate at Khallilote)
Other memorable places at Berhampur - Mridula and Jayshree panda's house(old bus stand), Venu's house( Church road),Kaustab and Ashu's house at Giri road and not to forget Vimal/Hema's house(Gusanagar)-landmark that u have reached berhampur while coming from the south.

Dr Santa - That's Interesting!
The White House does exist and if you are wondering who resides there? It's pretty simple - Obama!
Apparently you have spent more time than me at the White House since 1981 - Hurricane visits!
Dr Dilip Mishra must have told you that Dr Ali's son is Mental and you have added the prefix!
Are you referring to Ashish Ghosh -(Bokko)?
Anyways the White House was bought by Dr Saskar Rao a SV Convent school mate of mine! (Sudhakar's Cousin) This was perhaps a couple of years ago!
Yes Doc , waiting for the day to use your good offices , and enroll my daughter at Perambur. Too far away ( academics) but not impossible.
Perambur sounds like Berhampur, Doesn't it?
During my School days we were taught that ICF Integral Coach Factory that produces Railway Coaches was located there!
Nothing more than that!
Coach na Kaho Coach bhi na kaho!
Hi Santa....
That was quite a nostalgic peep into the past. And what a pleasant surprise to know you were a part of our house. I do wish your dream would have come true but unfortunately some 'White Houses' are destined to end up in black smoke. Some problems cropped up and our house had to be sold. The last I heard it was demolished. I still haven't seen that painful nazaara and even now we avoid going through that lane. In fact I was in Berhampur and just returned today.
Btw..my sis-in-law was posted in Perambur for sometime and I've been to that place.
Hey Santa....I think you have got me mixed up...I have never studied in Khallikote College :-} I passed out from Rama Devi in Bhub...
Nargis and Faiyaz, I am very sorry to know that the White House of BAM has been demolished! I vividly remember its stately appearance.
Dr Santa, even our house, or rather conglomerate of houses has been entirely sold (including Nari's, which was the last bastion), and I believe a mall is coming up there.
I too did not feel like going to Chruch Road when I visited BAM in Dec, 2006.
Those were the days- Everything was Pretty Simple and even People were Straightforward.....
Apparently Goals have changed, These days you either get to see Mall or Gol Maal!
Faiyaz, I guessed as much u wud say.. that's Obama's residence.
Only if I cud have known that u were selling it....even my parents were sad to hear this.
Is it Dr.Saskar Rao Opthalmologist?
Asish Mahapatro as I know him,Bokko..?hav u named him so..
Nargis, I'm sorry but I remember my sister mentioning that somebody from Dr.Ali's family is my classmate.
Somehow all of us seem to have some railway connection.
Yes It is Dr Saksar Rao - Dunno what he has specialized in?
Bokko is Ashish Ghosh and not Mohapatro!
Santa, You seem to have got mixed up with Nigar my younger sister - she was in Khallikote College Sarita's class mate.
Btw, who is Jayshree Panda - Pinky?
Yes its Pinky.
OK then must be its Nigar !
I wonder what's the fate of Mridula's house now. It's been more than a decade since they sold it.
Her mom died a couple of years ago. I had spoken to her a month before that, after a gap of 20 years! Little did I know that cancer would sap her life so soon!
God, I really miss her so much.
Yeah Santa...I guess it was Nigar :-}
And Venu, it's terrible about your 'houses' too. I remember that place so distinctly....It is a heartrending tragedy to see your puerile memories being sold off. But I guess practicality and sentimentality simply cannot walk hand in hand :-{
Santa: That's "Gosani-Nua-Gaon"
