Remmmmmmember the tayshtee tayshtee Mua? I believe Berhammmmmmmpur is the only place in the whole wide world where this hard as rock sweet is sold. Is it true? And can someone give me some mmmmmmmore facts on where this dish originated from. As a kid I used to think it was made with mmmmmmmuri but then on close observation found it was mmmmmmurmure. I donno about others but I always have to use a hammmmmmmer to break this thing ;-} But I bet that just like this gooey delicacy is nearly always swarmmmmmed by flies, the dentists of Berhammmmmpur are literally swarmmmmmmmmed by patients too :-} Btw...Tasneemmmmmmmmmm do you by any chance have this recipe too ?

I thought murmure and moori were one and the same thing.

I suppose there are two varieties
available at Devi Sweet stall (opp Old Bus stand, Barracks ).. or should is say 'Barkas'.
One is a petrified version , a bite ensures your teeth fall by default no need of visiting a BDS pro !
The other the crispy softer version- 'gheed' to the core interspersed with raisins, cashew and other colourful spreads.
Which is more palatable and sells better.
Do not know, whether this guy is still ' status quo' on maintaining the erstwhile ' Quality'
Hmmmmmmmm, Mmmmmua's pics had my mouth watering. I did get a chance to gorge into it in Mumbai last year, as someone had just returned from BAM.
Boy, was it hard! I wonder how I ever ate that stuff.
Nargis, the brownish garnishment on top of the pics look like fried caterpillars!! Or earthworms from the KK College Bio Lab?

Tas: Muri is puffed rice - the bloated and smooth variety but murmure is a slightly shrivelled version of it...donno how to explain...and yeah, tell dotty to set up her practice there in Bam.It'll be a roaring business...

I was craving for those crunchy, caramelised, heavenly smelling bits of fried coconut slivers. Venu, don't you spoil my wish...instead parcel me some.
the first thing i used to do was to eat those "caterpillars" then as nargis says we used to break it down, not with the hammer but with the belan! I had really forgotton all about it.

Hey Arun....isn't that what this is all about? To remind us guys of things we've forgotten? Of course, once in a way someone also takes us back to the future! That was one hillarious ride though...:-}
And Venu...about the caterpillars- Aha! Now I understand. And all this while I wondered why sometimes we have butterflies in our stomachs......hahahaha!

So my recollection, is that the hard core (pun unintentional) was made of liyaa, the caterpillars being strips of roasted coconut. Wondered why Berhampurias had great teeth ;-)
The mudhi muua, was usually spherical, softer, a poor man's (weak toothed) version and exported to places like Cuttack etc. ;-)

Berhampurias or Kotokis, great or weak, mua or no mua....all the human dantos are the same. So like they say- Be true to your teeth today. If not they will be 'false' tomorrow...;-}
