Pic at Puri beach in June 82
Though Gopalpur remains a favourite, our jaunts at Puri beach were also full of fun and frolic.Three of us in the photo are originally from SVC and all are from Stewarts Cuttack. While Gopalpur used to be  serene and sleepy(an ideal getaway)  Puri was always bustling with activity (courtesey tourists, pilgrims  and guys like us) . The sea was too tempting an cool for us to resist a dip on a hot Summer day and we had to manage with whatever we had for ' swimming trunks' . I remember once Venu and his friends walked all along the beach from Puri to Konark and ended up with blisters all over(he can blog it sometime) . Even now sitting on a hot and humid day before the PC in Kolkata this picture makes me want to rush for a dip in the sea.

I know just how the sea beckons people and makes them forget everything.
Many, many years back, my friend and I were strolling along Vizag beach...we kept chatting and walking, totally oblivious of how far we were from the place we'd started out from, till we reached a fishing village! It was the middle of the afternoon in blistering hot July. Funnily we didn't even realise that we were hot and thirsty and burning all over. By the time realisation dawned upon us, we were too tired and sick to walk back, so we rested in the village, drank water and slowly trudged back home. We were so tempted to wet ourselves in the sea but were scared as there was no one around for miles, to save us in case a huge wave swept us away! As expected, we got a good dressing down from Aunty when we reached home absolutely dehydrated and sun burnt. A few days later we found ourselves moulting! Yuck!
Nargis, this was during my Waltair training days, around the same time you saw me foot-plating on the KK Line.
I'd even driven an electric loco engine in the yard. Quite a wild creature I was then!!

Nice to see pics of the past when our bellies were flat!

Tas, how come we didn't meet during your Vizag stint? I'd have loved to travel in the engine of the Kirandul Passenger.

I too had my share of blisters and sun burn after trekking from Puri to Konarak--the trip took us nearly 10 hours. The best thing for quenching thirst is coconut water---nothing else comes close to it.

And Tas...I just read your comment. Yeah, I remember those Vizag days. You sure were a wild one...Hahaha...Recently when I went to Vizag I was really disappointed with how the entire scenery from the East Point Rest House has changed. Earlier we could have a lovely view of the beach from the terrace. Now all sorts of apartments have come up :-{
Hey Naresh...you stay in Vizag no? Next time I come there we must make it a point to meet...:-}

Nargis, that's news to me---I mean about the view getting hindered from the East Point Rest House.I recall that it had a fab view. I was staying nearby in VSP's Kirlampudi Guest House in Jan, 1982--it is a mere walk of 5 mins from East Point Rest House, towards YMCA.

NRK and Nargis

My apartment is a 5 min drive from the airport. A place called NAD X-roads just on the NH5.

Venu has my mob no. Just give me a tinkle before you come.
