Vital decision

I am in a bit of a predicament and your valuable advice is therefore sought!
The question is I cannot flip the question!
The Canadian Government has asked me to choose between my Family and my Job in Dubai.
Should I wish to continue working outside Canada, I forego my Canadian Permanent Residence status.
Canada - It’s Now or Never! Dubai - It’s Bye Bye Dubye!

Seek professional help - Hire a lawyer – Weigh the pros and cons - Charge exorbitant hourly rates - Tell you what you already know!
I have used all my lifelines and left with a few options to decide upon - Phone a friend & Audience Poll

Staying away from the family, timely remittance for their sustenance - Absence makes the heart grow fonder, they say. As opposed to living together without a job, where frustration is bound to build since $$$ is closely associated with domestic happiness.

Dimaag says with the current global recession these days securing a Part Time Job is a problem – Permanent and White collared? Forget it!
Dil says – Family, after all Dil to Paagal Hain!
Dimaag takes precedence over Dil – What say you?

I’m confused!!
A Vital decision I’ve got to make and I need to act based on your free and valuable responses!

FAB,
This is a very serious matter and I only hope you are not leg pulling. Tonight I shall only pray. After a day or two i will respond.

The job scene in Canada is the pits now. Not at all advisable to leave your present established position for some crap here. Give up your PR status. After a year when your younger one joins Uni, Dina can easily join you in Dubai as she would've got her Canadian citizenship by then. Later on whenever the need arises, Dina or your sons can always sponsor you for citizenship.
This is what I feel. I don't know if I'm factually correct or whether it is as easy as I'm making it out to be.
Alternatively, Dina should take up a job and you can retain your PR by moving base to Canada. She'll have to support the family and that would entail a lot of compromises in your present lifestyle. Plus point would be that the family would be together and you wouldn't lose your PR.
Yes, life is tough being alone, but if you can hold out for another year, then I guess things will sort out.
Give me a call if you are still in Toronto.
Praying that things work out for you.
TC.

Trust Fiiyaz to coat a serious issue with humour.
Yaar,Dimag ki baat suno to ultimately Dil bhi khush ho jayegi.
A bird in hand blah blah blah---.
The present economic scenario and comments of Tas also support the arguement to continue in Dubai.I too feel you may continue in Dubai. As always whatever u decide I wish and pray that it turns out to be the right one. Best of Luck and keep smiling

Faiyaz....Quitting the job? No way! Did you talk to Chintu about it? Will ask Shanker to send you a mail. But whatever you do, do it with your dimaag. If you listen to the drums of passion you will only get an advice that will drown all reason. What Tas says makes a lot of sense especially since she knows the exact scenario out there. So seriously think it over!

Faiyaz, I am sorry to know about your predicament.
I am inclined to go with Tas's advice---stick on to your job for another year or two.
Let your PR go---but does it have any implications that we're unaware of?

I endorse TAS advice.

However, should you plan to relocate to Canada, let me tell you this that someone like you will never lack a job and the dollars (even if they are Canadian dollars)since even in recession therere are openings for smart people everywhere, who are willing to take risks....

Decide carefully after weighing all options, including solicited advices, pray and then take the plunge....

Jaan hai to Jahan hai ! Aur jaan ko barkaraar rakhne ke liye , as you said $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ chahiye.

If you can forgoe your Canadian citizen , what's the big deal ? You have your job right, and a direction in life till your superannuation.

Do you have any clemency issues at Dubai. How long would be your working Visa status ?

Pragmatically forgoing job is not a sensible decision.

Or the DUbai job is a 'expat' status! Better consult the legal experts for the nitty gritties of emigration / immigration / migration.

I am completely in agreement with Tasneem. BTW, Canadian and Australian PRs and Citizenships will always be available to educated, hardworking people. I work in investments and every economist I talk to are still very gloomy. The rate of job losses may go down, but jobs will keep being lost.
And then when jobs start getting added, (2010....2011, who knows), it is not going to absorb all unemployed overnight.....it will take a few years. So unluckily, some people who have lost thier jobs now may even remain unemployed till 2012/2013. Coming from India, I would be scared to get into that situation !

Shoot an email better explaning and adding details of the predicament. I'll run it by some friends who have Canadian PR.

Tas' advice seems pragmatic.

Was nice talking to you, Fai.
What I know is that you'll excel in whatever you venture at. Not only are you & Dina smart but you are also bold and tough as nails.
Take your lawyer's advice, think objectively and do what you ultimately think is the best.
Till then, enjoy the lovely spring in your patio...barbecue n all
We are snowed in!

Dear FAB,

It's probably one of the toughest decisions in your life and a serious one at that. If you are saying bye bye to Dubai without a job in hand in Canada then pls. rethink. I have no doubt in your abilities but recession is a bloody recession and even the best can be without a job during such times. I have left SAIL four years back but there are still days when I think why the hell did I leave such a secure job. If you can maintain a status quo for a year that would be ideal but then I think because a status quo could not be maintained that you have to take a decision NOW.

I think the best decision will come from your wife and kids. It is their view that should have a final say. They should be an integral part of the decision making process.

Insha Allah all will be fine.

Fai: How much time do you have on hand to take a call? How often do you manage to be with your family? Is it once a month? once in six months...?
Immediate thought: Heart says Canada but Dimaaag says Dubai....

Faiyaz said...

Thank you Vimal for setting up this this wonderful platform - This has really helped me!

I do not want to come over to Canada and remain idle - After all, An idle Man is a brother to a Beggar!

Tasneem said...

Fai, that was a cryptic comment!
So what have you finally decided? To remain in Canada n not be idle (ie. be gainfully employed)??

Faiyaz said...

Tas, Still contemplating!

Faiyaz,

Where do you want to settle down in life , post retirement Dubai , India or Canada ?
I think you need to ponder on this and decide . Jobs & money comes and goes , comes and so on.Organisation need to be compromised , and the mindset should be how much you earn on an hourly basis

Mind over matter and matter over heart , the debate goes on till the cows come back home .

God is there with you , hence pray and ask earnestly, it will be answered.

Hey Faiyaz - u have got a whole lot of good advice and i am really so bad at such things - i myself gave a plum job in the Indian Express where i was drawing a royal salary, perks, status everything and went back to scratch. so, it is not advisable to take advice from me. All the very best - all i can say that God is there and heis planning something better for you. cheers

Faiyaz said...

Great to hear from you Louis - so you finally surfaced!

Vinita - So what you went back to scratch - With so much of potential in you - You gonna Scratch and Win!

Faiyaz --itna socho mat --family is important --and Canada will definitely provide you a good opening somewhere ...send your CV crss to friends and start networking. I can refer you to a few contacts myself.

There might be a few months lead time --I am sure you can use that time to look around and hone your skills ....

Faiyaz said...

Thanks for the advise Stanley!
Sochna kya ?
Jo bhi hoga dekha jaayega!
