hi everybody

well the blog seems 2 b wilting under the heat - it has been an exceptionally hot summer- viml has taken off 4 the hills, nargis is hot footing it 2 the us of a and tas prob is enjoying a lovely spring . ashu is in australia, by -passing the scorching heat . i am - guess where? in the maldives, where i have volunteered for a medical camp- we r supposed 2 b checking the local populace. problem is today is friday, their weekly holiday so am at a loose end- got access 2 the comp so can blog bhai! faiyaz has hopefully got over his prof hitch and has finally settled down at work. we will all inundate him with wishes on his birthday. i am at an atoll called meem - island is mulee and there is a very well quipped hospital here with a good lab, operation theatre and an icu also. the island is like something out of a tourist brochure- fringed with turquoise seas and white soft beaches - only its humid and so we r sweating like pigs. food is tuna, (tuna, tuna kaka tuna!) which is a very strong smelling fish - popular with westerners but not very palatable 2 my oh-so indian palate. am doing an opd of maybe 4-5 / day which is 1/10 my work load so am getting restless! am now worried abt my old age - am going 2 chew up J s brain once i stop working- am prob turning into a workaholic - old age has possibilities of chocoholic, alcoholic, bathoholic ( new term meaning person who bathes 4-5 times/ day which is what am doing now).

Alps

Probab that brings back your childhood memoirs of Car Nicobar.

You can take a 2 piece bikini and jump into the placid waters for cooling off ! Go snorkelling !

Swim alongwith Sting rays .. dont go close to them. Pick a couple of invaluable corals from the reefs !

Pat Abdul Gayoom on his back for being a Prime minister too long !

But pls keep the population increasing till they outnumber the fauna at sea.

Maldives needs populace !

I envy the good Doctor from Sangli, as she enjoys her recess at maldives, maudlin narrative notwithstanding about the Tuna and bathaholism.

guys, u forget 1 thing- this is a muslim country , the people r dark ( read as i look like goldie hawn!! haha)- my legs would scream 4 attention- my sleeveless arms already do and final pt - i am supposed 2 b the visiting doc ( res 4 upholding my country's image(( u dont want 1 with slightly middleaged women baring white paunches on white sands )) though i have a bikini it will stay demurely and sedately in place and go back 2 india without a dip in the maldivian waters(( bikini, not me))). have hope though- there is anextension of this island- uninhabited and accessible at low tde ( acc 2 the staff nurse0 with good beaches.. we r supposed 2 b going theretoday - will take my swimsuit along and if possible, swim. cant go 4 the brooke shields act though this is the perfect sea 4 eating mangoes in the water wclothed in mono or bi-kini. as these peopl have recently bcum a democracy, the general elections r being held today and there is a young hopeful who might bcum pres. so abdul gayoom, who incidentally acc 2 the high commissioner was a benevolent autocrat ( gud 4 him and the country! we need 1 now)will b history ( or already is!) and yes this harks back 2 my childhood days though there is not much red, blue and green coral here ( mabbe some place else). till then am blogging like crazy so will prob have 2 relinquish, with grt regret the title of 1-post wonder and bcum the resident nuisance .

Rajiv Gandhi sent Indian troops to quell the coup against Gayoom---perhaps that was the reason he could stick on so long.
Anyways, have fun Alps. There is a Taj hotel at Villi Varu and Biyadoo Islands. Have you seen those hotels?

I understand there is a restaurant in Maldives that is actually below the sea level enclosed in a glass structure and you have fishes swimming all over. Must be a great sight!!
