When I was a little kid, I guess 7 or 8, perhaps like most any other kids do, did have a chat with my dad about God and religion. Long story short, what I had gathered from that single such conversation with my dad is that he wasn't sure of any of the things, in any religion, holy books that he had read or heard about, pertaining to God or otherwise, while in general observing that the original intents were good or must have been. He had also added that prophets must have had had great PR skills and on prayers he had said he was "too embarrassed to". I have ever since embraced this ambiguity absolutely, well maybe, not sure ;-)
But I digress! You may have heard about Cameron Todd Willingham, lately in the news, in Texas at least, for his posthumous pardon. Innocent people being sent to the gallows, is not unheard of, and always extremely heart wrenching. What stands out (and I was awed by it) in this case is that, the breed of people called "arson investigators" are actually novices (as compared to other fields such as forensics), certified by 1 month courses which are 19th century, at best and mostly rely on "instinct". It is they who sowed the seeds of doubt, resulting in the travesty. The DA et al, payed so much importance to their "expertise" that other evidences and voices of reason were drowned.
Dunno why, imaginary images of Galileo being tried by "acclaimed accepted experts" for saying that the earth revolves around the sun, flashed by.
We think, question, argue and decipher, therefore we are!

Just like common sense is not so common, I guess even reason can not be reasoned out.
'Prejudices are what fools use for reason'....Voltaire...!!
Hi Hilu,
Nice thoughts....
Googled about the Cameron case. I only wish he is innocent. It would otherwise qualify as a blot on mankind.
Galelio invented the telescope saw and proved that earth moves around the sun and was condemned to a life of house arrest. But what I still cannot understand is the divine justice. How come God was so cruel that he ended his last five years of life totally blind? That still pains me- not what the Pope did but what God did.
There was a time when seeing was believing and then Einstein came up with something really profound, "What you see is not what it is." Really we all see what we want to see and not what is there to be seen.
