I am not making this up - back in '82, was in Bombay, training with BEST. So, myself and 2 guys from REC, RKL, one an Oriya too.
Traveling on the subway, a local musta heard us speak, and caught on to "Oriya re (ray) ..." and asked us if we really were from (K)orea. It took us a second to discard the fact that we must have heard "Korea", he must mean "Oriya" for Orissa (kinda like some Americans ask, if we all speak 'Hindu' ;-) ).
"Yes" we said. He was bewildered. Said we did not look like that, and we replied "well, there is nothing particularly distinguishing about us as compared to you guys".
Why all the way to so far to Bombay, he continued. "Far" is a relative term, and we explained it away.
Finally, he said, that I might could pass off remotely, barely though, not my friends.
Anyways, that signalled the clarification. He was relieved ;-)
