These pictures were taken during inauguration of water supply project at Karnaja village near Uran on 15th August, 2010.
There is a Adivasi pada on a hillock with about 200 families living. They had to collect their daily requirement of water from a location about 80 ft. below their dwelling place. It was a tough task and they used to spend lot of time and energy to just get the water. To make their job easy a pump was installed on the top of the tank where the Municipality supply was available and pipeline was laid to take the pumped water to a tank on the top of the hillock closer to the peoples' houses. Now the ladies are happy as it saves lot of their time and energy.
By the way Karanja is close to the place where the oil spill has happened.

Awesome to be involved in something like that.
I always wondered, why is it that its "gentlemanly" to hold the door for a "lady" or open the vehicle door for one, but leave the real work to women folk ;-)
Keep up the good work, Lakshmi!
